There is an unspoken need worldwide for something essential – health care providers.

We hear regularly about the need for health care that is accessible both regionally and financially, but what exactly does it mean to need health care providers?

A lack of providers results in a lack of health care. This could be everything from access to life-saving vaccines, to maternal and newborn support – and developing countries are hit the hardest. The shortage of health care providers is set to reach 18 million by 2030.

The anesthesiology department at Hue University in Vietnam had to postpone a workshop scheduled for April, 2020 due to COVID. They got creative and worked with HVO volunteers to successfully conduct an airway management course with 5 learning stations and several lectures in late November even though no volunteers were there in person. Virtual support and input carried the day.

In the note updating the HVO Executive Director about the workshop, Dr. NGUYEN VAN MINH noted that “ It is a sweet fruit from the long journey with the support from HVO. We wait for the moment when COVID-19 is over and we will welcome the HVO again.”
