In many communities, the path for young women is shaped early — and often, it’s filled with obstacles. Girls are expected to stay quiet. To put family needs before their own education. To step into adult responsibilities long before they’re ready. For some, the risk of dropping out of school, early marriage, or limited job opportunities feels less like a possibility and more like an inevitability. Perla knows this reality well. Growing up, she was shy and unsure of herself, often holding back her thoughts and ideas. Like many girls in her community, she struggled to imagine a future beyond the limitations she saw every day.
