Project HOPE: Project HOPE in Ukraine

Nikita Hiazyrin

Project HOPE in Ukraine, with the support of International Health Partners (IHP), has donated 6,100 vials of cancer drugs worth about $4.5 million to the Public Health Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

Interview with Pavlo Pozigun, Project HOPE’s Medical Coordinator in Ukraine.

Due to the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, communities close to the front line face numerous challenges related to the destruction of infrastructure, displacement of people and the provision of basic services to people, especially healthcare, supply of medicines, the need to modernize medical equipment and support for patients with chronic diseases, especially people with cancer.

Thanks to the medicines provided by IHP, Project HOPE is able to support the main medical facilities that treat oncology patients. This is extremely important, as it reduces the burden on the healthcare system and provides timely and continuous treatment to the population. If the comprehensive complex treatment is not maintained, it can cause exacerbation of all these health conditions and deterioration of the population’s life, which is a very big challenge, as high-quality treatment requires long-term provision of various types of medicines.”

Due to the war, people with cancer face problems with obtaining medicines, especially in those communities that are in close proximity to the front line. The state funding is currently insufficient to cover all the needs of patients, so the donated medicines from IHP are a great help for specialized hospitals in Ukraine.
