“The concept behind AdvocacyWeek was quite new and very important for me. It provided a framework to educate people on the fact that LGBTQ rights are human rights. This led Taiwan to create its biggest rally ever in 2016, with 260K people on International Human Rights Day. We were able to adopt the concept that LGBT rights are part of Human Rights into our advocacy. I secondly learned the format to do advocacy work at the UN, from agenda setting, developing annual goals, inviting different countries’ and regions’ activists, to creating a platform, and then starting a conversation with officials. We adopted this strategy and systematic approach in our lobbying agenda during Taiwan’s Marriage Equality campaign.” Jennifer L.
