Steve Polo is a recognized thought leader, facilitator, speaker, panelist, educator, and mentor. He continues to be a source of advice and inspiration to professional and personal relationships in his life.
Previously, Steve was the Managing Partner of OPX, a design consultancy focused on helping good companies work better. Steve and his team pioneered a new way of looking at the confluence of organizations, operations, and culture. By infusing the practice of design with his innovative thinking on business performance, he has created a value proposition in the market through the integration of people, tools, and place with business operations and strategy. Within that structure, OPX built innovative tools to help their clients work better. Steve and his team developed an app called Vium that helped people manage their work lives better, and ESP, an award-winning scenario planning tool that models the implications of design decisions in a work environment.
As a founder of two businesses prior to OPX, Steve is also former adjunct professor at The Catholic University of America, and a frequent a guest lecturer and panelist at colleges, universities, and professional symposia – including SHRM, Babson College, George Washington University, Virginia Tech, Georgetown University, Urban Land Institute, and others. Steve lectures on design thinking, demand creation, conscious capitalism, and most recently the post-pandemic workplace.
Steve is a member of and has served in leadership positions on a variety of corporate and nonprofit boards, including the Eurasia Foundation Advisory Council, the Conscious Venture Lab, Vistage (a CEO advisory group), the Krewe of Red Beans, and the Venture Advisory Collaborative. He also served two terms as Board Chair of Global Impact and is an advisor to the Global Impact UK Board. Steve’s passion within these organizations is to support and encourage the team to continue to build an environment of leading practices, creativity, learning, and diversity to best deliver on each group’s respective mission.
Steve has a Masters Degree in Architecture from Virgina Tech. His other interests include language learning, all things musical (as a former drummer in a blues band for 10-12 years), art (he’s an abstract painter who has work featured in collections), running, tennis, and mentoring former employees.
