Sarah Degnan Kambou is an intrapreneur with leadership experience directing gender equity and social justice initiatives in Africa, South Asia, the UK, and Europe. Her technical areas of expertise encompass sexual and reproductive health and rights, youth development, and tech for good. She advises corporations, multilateral agencies, and civil society organizations.
Dr. Degnan Kambou is the Executive Director of The S.H.E. College Fund, a nonprofit that provides full college, university, or trade-school scholarships, along with life skills training and mentorship, to young Kenyan women who have the courage to say no to harmful practices such as female genital mutilation/cutting, early forced child marriage, and the denial of a girl’s right to education. They return to their communities as successful, independent women and influential changemakers.
Ms. Kambou is also the immediate past President and CEO of the International Center for Research on Women (ICRW). Prior to ICRW, Sarah lived in Africa, managing population and development programs for Care International. She launched her career at the Boston University School of Public Health, where she co-founded the Center for International Health. Sarah is a member of the Board of Directors of Capital for Good, Global Impact, and Kalanidhi Dance. She serves on advisory boards for Pathfinder International, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences of the University of Connecticut, and Uplevyl.
Sarah holds a doctorate in international health policy, a master’s degree in public health from Boston University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in French from the University of Connecticut.
