By 2030, the world will have a shortfall of 10 million health care workers if current recruitment and retention trends continue. Global charities are working tirelessly to fill the gaps and ensure equitable access to health care for all. Supporting global health is a popular cause, especially for people who work in the medical field or on global issues. The good news is your workplace can meet those interests by partnering with charities leading the way.
Partners In Health (PIH)’s mission is to provide a preferential option for the poor in health care. They work in countries around the world, including the U.S., to deliver health care to the world’s most impoverished places, empowering local communities to lead the way for their needs.
PIH provides data-backed, unique solutions for communities, and they apply those same principles to their corporate partnerships. Whether you’re in the health or pharmaceutical fields, work in global communities, or are simply inspired by their work, your company can team up with PIH to forge an impactful, custom partnership. A partnership with PIH empowers your workplace to be a real asset for communities in need while showcasing your company’s skillset, passion, and expertise.
Read on to see two inspiring examples of successful corporate partnerships that are making a positive change in communities worldwide.
Case Study: How Corporate Partners Empower Community Health Workers Worldwide
Community health workers (CHWs) are the backbone of PIH’s work. They are local community members who accompany patients through their journey back to health and do so for as long as it takes. They have the linguistic, cultural, and technical expertise to deliver compassionate medical care and social support to residents, improving equity in health outcomes and access.
CHWs are crucial to address and overcome the obstacles that patients face, such as high transportation costs, childcare needs, and distrust due to historic discrimination. Yet, they often face challenges like understaffing and medical supply stock issues that make it hard to do their job effectively. It’s critical to recruit and retain more CHWs, as well as empower them with efficient medical infrastructure.
That’s where corporate partners come in! Together, these partners elevate CHW programs, allowing them to serve as the bridge that connects communities to robust health systems.
Convatec
With Convatec, a global medical products and technologies company focused on solutions for the management of chronic conditions, PIH is able to:
- Strengthen recruitment, training, and mentorship of CHWs
- Create greater integration of CHWs into community-centered health delivery models
- Improve the use of data to equip and deploy CHWs
They are focusing their work in Mexico, Peru, and the state of North Carolina – three very different locations that are improving and expanding the effectiveness of local solutions, catalyzing cross-site learning, and knowledge exchange.
A Pharmaceutical Foundation
PIH-US and the foundational arm of a pharmaceutical company are working together to:
- Expand community health outreach and engagement
- Strengthen collaborative infrastructure to elevate, integrate, and sustainably invest in CHWs
The foundation has been supporting the CHW program in Mexico for the last nine years. They recently launched an innovative project together that will support CHW work in the United States, applying proven global CHW solutions to similar local issues.
With the support of partners like these, PIH is able to help over 11,000 CHWs globally, who were able to conduct over 3,847,500 CHW home visits in 2023. In the U.S. alone, PIH-US CHWs reached at least 6 million people with vaccine outreach and education.
Explore the Impact
