ALIMA USA, The Alliance for International Medical Action

COVID-19 has sparked a disastrous shortage in vital medical equipment and trained health care personnel. Without the necessary support and supplies, African countries could face a mortality rate up to three times higher than European countries. Oxygen concentrators are at the top of the list of critical medical equipment needed to combat this deadly virus.

In response to the COVID-19 global health pandemic, ALIMA USA has launched a digital campaign called Oxygen for Africa. This campaign supplies respiratory equipment to support COVID-19 relief work in six African countries. On #GivingTuesdayNow, ALIMA invites you to join the campaign or make a contribution toward their COVID-19 response to help save lives in sub-Saharan Africa. Learn more about ALIMA USA’s COVID-19 response and how you can get involved.

EngenderHealth

During the COVID-19 crisis, EngenderHealth is more motivated than ever to fulfill their mission to “implement high-quality, gender-equitable programs that advance sexual and reproductive health and rights.”

It has become increasingly difficult for women to receive medical attention for family planning and contraceptive services. For women and girls, sexual and reproductive health needs are ongoing, and EngenderHealth’s continued support is crucial. Recently, the EngenderHealth team provided 24,000 boxes of menstrual hygiene pads for women and girls in COVID-19 quarantine centers in Ethiopia. These products are an asset and significantly improved the quality of live for women in this area.

Hope for Haiti

Hope for Haiti is committed to improving the quality of life for all people in Haiti. As the COVID-19 pandemic progresses, public health and hygiene education initiatives are taking center stage in their mission. Their new campaign is the Hike for Haiti Challenge, taking place between April 17 and May 17. This challenge directly supports Hope for Haiti’s COVID-19 strategy.

Hike for Haiti Challenge

Access to clean water, health care and education is incredibly difficult, especially in Marre a Coiffe, Haiti. In this rural community, families must climb an equivalent of 200 flights of stairs in order to reach these vital resources. Hope for Haiti is inviting participants from all over the world to hike the equivalent of Marre a Coiffe  from the safety of their homes! In tune with the rules of social distancing, Hike for Haiti allows communities to join together on a safe, virtual basis. This virtual engagement highlights the obstacles that Haitians face every day and supports health initiatives across the Hope for Haiti partner schools. Education plays a pivotal role in health care, and funds raised from this challenge will benefit Hope for Haiti’s education and health care work throughout Haiti.

Plan International USA

Plan International USA is utilizing #GivingTuesdayNow to support women, girls and their families around the world.

History shows that during times of crisis, like the current COVID-19 pandemic, there is a surge in violence toward women, higher rates of teen pregnancy and an increase in child marriage. #GivingTuesdayNow is a prime opportunity for us to come together to combat these issues and keep girls safe from harm.
