In Sierra Leone, Manso Kargbo noticed his 12-year-old daughter, Cylian, complaining of extreme side pain. She was eventually diagnosed with multidrug-resistant tuberculosis, and brought to the country’s only hospital offering treatment for the deadly disease: Partners In Health-supported Lakka Government Hospital. Thanks to a partnership between PIH and the government of Sierra Leone, her father’s love, expert care from clinicians, and her own perseverance, Cylian survived—and today is a thriving 14-year-old who dreams big.
