Building a dynamic fundraising strategy and providing fiscal sponsorship for The Glo Development Foundation, the team behind Glo Dollar

Let's end extreme poverty

Opportunity

  • The Glo Development Foundation is addressing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) #1 to “end poverty in all its forms everywhere” by creating a stablecoin called Glo Dollar that generates basic income for people in extreme poverty.
  • The Glo Development Foundation needed a fiscal sponsor as they pursue a 501(c)(3) status. They also sought an advisory partner to help build a dynamic fundraising strategy, which accounts for its position at the nexus of cryptocurrency, poverty alleviation and philanthropic giving.

 

 

Approach

  • Global Impact is providing fiscal sponsorship support that allows The Glo Development Foundation to solicit and accept tax-deductible gifts from U.S. individuals, corporations and foundations.

  • As part of the fundraising strategy, Global Impact is providing The Glo Development Foundation with a variety of fundraising mechanisms and an enhanced capacity to implement them, including:

    • Conducting an assessment to determine The Glo Development Foundation’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and external threats.

    • Performing a benchmarking analysis to determine the organizational structure and funding sources of The Glo Development Foundation's peers and competitors.

    • Conducting prospect research on funders, which align with The Glo Development Foundation's mission and display ability, affinity and access.

    • Designing a 12-month fundraising framework and augment The Glo Development Foundation's fundraising capacity by acting as development staff to cultivate a pipeline of prospects.

    • Drafting outreach to identified prospects and supporting The Glo Development Foundation as conversations with potential funders develop.

Results

  • Over the course of our engagement, we expect to help The Glo Development Foundation achieve the following results:
     
    • Handle tax receipting and financial management so The Glo Development Foundation can focus on ending extreme poverty and changing the financial framework of the U.S.
    • Grow revenue and existing funding opportunities.
    • Create a corporate case for support and turnkey employee engagement offerings.
    • Identify, qualify and contact more than 25 foundations, corporate and high net worth individual prospects.

About The Glo Development Foundation

  • Glo is pegged to the US Dollar and fully backed by a mix of cash and government bonds. Those government bonds provide interest income, which Glo donates to a charity called GiveDirectly, which distributes the money to people in extreme poverty, no strings attached. The more Glo Dollar in circulation, the more people can be lifted out of extreme poverty.
  • Glo holders can convert their holdings back to U.S. dollars (or another currency) at any time, meaning they can contribute to GiveDirectly via “donationless philanthropy.” The Glo Development Foundation aims to unlock an entirely new population of philanthropists who will not lose any of their personal capital to lift people out of extreme poverty.
