Did you know that your employer can help you double or even triple your impact in the fight against hunger? Many workplaces match every dollar you donate or hour you volunteer, stretching your contribution further at no extra cost to you.
That means leading charities like Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) can get double or triple the resources to fight global hunger, thanks to you and your workplace.
FMSC makes it simple to have an impact on world hunger. Volunteers hand pack scientifically formulated meals for undernourished children, which have been sent to 110 countries since March 2009. Through meal packing sessions at their eight permanent volunteer locations and MobilePack events that can be hosted anywhere, FMSC offers plenty of opportunities for people like you to make a difference.
1 in 11 people globally face hunger, and World Food Day (October 16) is a time to reflect on why global hunger persists and what we can do to stop it. Consider volunteering with FMSC and learn how you can amplify your efforts through your workplace below.
How to amplify your efforts at work
You may already know that many workplaces offer corporate matching gifts, doubling or even tripling the amount you donate, as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) and employee engagement efforts. But many also offer volunteer grant programs, sometimes called “dollars for doers” programs. These programs reward employees who volunteer their time with matching cash gifts to the charities they’re supporting.
FMSC’s food packing events are a simple way to get your volunteer hours in while making a huge impact for global hunger. You can pack meals at any of their eight permanent packing sites or host or join a MobilePack event, which is a meal packing event that can be hosted anywhere. You’ll be packaging MannaPack meals, which are meal formulas developed by food science and nutrition professionals to supplement nutritional needs and reduce problems with malnutrition. With these prepared meal formulas, kids of all ages will have access to nutrient-dense meals to support their growth.
Watch how Dana, a Minnesota Twins employee who volunteers with FMSC, multiplies his impact thanks to his employer’s generous volunteer grant program. Whether it’s through workplace giving, corporate matching gifts, or volunteer hour grants, you can turn your job into a powerful tool for good.
So as you gear up to make a difference for World Food Day, first find out if you can stretch your impact further with a matching gift or volunteer grant. Check out FMSC’s tool here to learn more about what your workplace offers.
See the impact
Gabriel was nearly 3 years old but weighed only 6 pounds. MannaPack® meals saved his life.
His grandmother, Imelda, feared the worst as she watched him grow weaker. She was heartbroken. Imelda laid Gabriel on one of her dresses to keep him comfortable; he didn’t look like he would live much longer.
Then, Imelda’s friend stopped by, worried about her friend. She told Imelda about African Children Today (ACT), a partner of Feed My Starving Children. She’d heard they could help even very malnourished children.
After receiving FMSC food from ACT and eating MannaPack meals for a few months, Gabriel grew to 18 pounds! These meals saved his life.
