Pisey grew up in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and slowly built a community of LGBTQI+ people in her city to support each other amid a society that is traditionally alienating. Rainbow Community Kampuchea (RoCK) was born in 2009, creating a safe space for this vibrant, growing community. Today, with cultural acceptance of LGBTQI+ people on the rise, Pisey and her RoCK team are launching the “I Accept” campaign, a nation-wide effort to advance LGBTQI+ rights and legalize same-sex marriage. This groundbreaking campaign could bring Cambodia to the forefront of the global movement for marriage equality. RoCK is just one of over 500 social change organizations that AJWS supports in 18 countries around the world, all working to create a better, more equitable world for everyone.
