Director, Global Finance & Business Services

As the Director, Global Finance & Business Services, you’ll lead financial management, client service, and operational delivery for an assigned portfolio of Global Impact clients and international entities. The initial portfolio is expected to include Global Impact Canada and Global Impact Australia, along with assigned global client relationships.

You’ll also serve as the senior finance and service lead for the portfolio, overseeing staff who are responsible for day-to-day accounting and administration, coordinating annual audits, statutory reporting, and other recurring country obligations. Ability to manage the complex work across legal entities, currencies, time zones, and professional advisers while ensuring that clients receive accurate, timely, and practical support is essential.

Working closely with the Director of International Platform & Operations, in-country leadership, and enterprise support teams, you’ll share international standards, tools, and country-readiness work to deliver high-quality finance and business services within the assigned portfolio.

Responsibilities

Lead assigned global client and international entity portfolios, including service plans, deliverables, timelines, issue resolution, onboarding, transitions, and cross-border projects.

  • Oversee portfolio performance, client service quality, team capacity, risks, and financial sustainability; escalate legal, tax, audit, board, or leadership matters as needed.
  • Manage accounting and financial operations, including close processes, AP/AR, billing, cash management, restricted funding, grants, shared costs, intercompany activity, multi-currency transactions, reporting, and client deliverables.
  • Review financial statements, reconciliations, variance explanations, controls, approvals, documentation, and segregation of duties for accuracy, timeliness, and completeness.
  • Lead audits, statutory accounts, tax, charity, corporate, and recurring country obligations with staff, auditors, local accountants, advisers, entity leaders, and boards.
  • Maintain entity records, compliance calendars, registrations, insurance, governing documents, financial materials, and audit/compliance findings; communicate material risks and constraints.
  • Supervise, develop, and prioritize assigned FBS team members, partnering with leadership and HR on staffing, onboarding, performance management, and development.
  • Clarify roles, handoffs, and decisions across clients, in-country staff, enterprise teams, and advisers; partner with international platform & operations on common systems, workflows, reporting tools, and standards.
  • Translate complex finance and operational matters into clear, practical guidance for clients, boards, and colleagues.

Qualifications

Qualifying for this role means that you have a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience; CPA, CA, ACCA, CIMA, MBA, or similar qualification preferred. You have 8-10 years of experience in progressive accounting, finance, or business services experience, including client relationships, staff leadership, and complex project responsibility. We strongly prefer a candidate that has experience with multi-country or multi-entity operations, international nonprofits, NGOs, foundations, fiscal sponsors, or mission-driven initatives. You are adept at nonprofit accounting, restricted funding, budgeting, reporting, internal controls, audits, statutory requirements, multi-currency activity, and accounting/reporting systems. You’re a natural team collaborator with project management and cross-cultural skills, with the ability to work across multiple times zones.

Working at Global Impact

This is a full-time position and may be fully remote, with occasional travel to Global Impact’s headquarters in Washington, D.C., for team meetings. Local employees work in a hybrid model. The role may also require periodic international travel and flexibility for meetings across time zones. Visa sponsorship is not available.

The salary range is $140,000–$150,000, depending on the experience you bring. In addition to the salary, Global Impact offers 16 paid holidays and 25 paid days off, along with benefits that include parental leave, medical and dental coverage, short-term and long-term disability coverage, and a robust 401(k) program.
