GERC Hunger Relief Fund

Global Emergency Response Coalition logoGlobal Impact is partnering with the Global Emergency Response Coalition (GERC), a lifesaving humanitarian alliance made up of eight of the world’s largest U.S.-based international aid organizations, including CARE, International Medical Corps, International Rescue Committee, Mercy Corps, Oxfam, Plan International, Save the Children, and World Vision.

The first-of-its-kind U.S. Coalition was created in response to the unprecedented scale and severity of devastating hunger affecting millions of vulnerable people in Nigeria, Yemen, South Sudan, Somalia, and neighboring countries. More than 20 million people are facing the threat of starvation and famine. Nearly 1.4 million children are severely malnourished and are at risk of death without immediate help. In Yemen alone, the lack of food and basic resources is so dire that a child under five dies every 10 minutes.

The causes of this hunger crisis range from drought to ongoing violence, but the devastating consequences are the same: children and their families are struggling to survive. Governments, individuals, and the humanitarian community need to act now.

A child's arm is measured for malnutrition level.

GERC has launched the Hunger Relief Fund, a collective appeal to the American public from July 17 - 28, 2017, to raise funds to respond to urgent humanitarian needs and save millions of lives.
