ECPAT-USA Public Service Announcement: “Does Your Hotel Know?”
ECPAT-USA, a Global Impact charity partner, released a public service announcement titled “Does Your Hotel Know?” to raise awareness of the role that hotels often play in child exploitation. With this effort, ECPAT-USA, whose mission is to protect every child’s basic human right to grow up free from the threat of sexual exploitation and trafficking, is narrowing its focus to hotels and what travelers and hotel personnel can do to prevent child exploitation.
In partnership with the tourism private sector, ECPAT-USA has created the Code of Conduct for the Protection of Children from Sexual Exploitation in Travel and Tourism. The code is a voluntary set of standards that travel and tour companies are encouraged to follow in order to prevent trafficking. The code includes the education of employees and travelers on the signs of exploitation and reporting methods, the upholding of new anti-trafficking policies, and a zero-tolerance attitude towards this abuse. The code encourages people to look for the signs of trafficking and to take a proactive response when confronted with it, reporting anything that seems suspicious—and to live the motto “you could be the difference between a child’s life of abuse and a brighter future.”
In order to raise awareness of the “Does Your Hotel Know?” PSA, ECPAT-USA asks that you use #doesyourhotelknow to spread the word through social media. To learn more, visit ECPAT-USA’s website or contact [email protected].
