Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area Exceeds its $67 Million Goal to Help People and Communities in Need

Alexandria, VA (April 13, 2011) - The 2010 Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area (CFCNCA), managed by Global Impact, announced today that generous Federal employees pledged $67 million. This is $500,000 more than the amount raised in 2009 and includes $17.8 million raised in pledges through e-Giving, which is $5.7 million more than in 2009.

"My fellow Federal employees have a tremendous spirit of public service.  They give to charities because of a personal experience, regardless of their own financial situation," said Linda Washington, Senior Policy Advisor for Community Initiatives at the U.S. Department of Transportation and Chairperson of the Local Federal Coordinating Committee.  "They feel connected to a cause, or are often close to the need. For every dollar raised through the campaign, a real life has been touched."

The campaign highlighted dozens of Federal employees whose lives were changed due to a CFCNCA-supported charity. The stories outlined personal connections to the campaign, including:
• A Federal employee facing cancer and receiving counseling and treatment through CFCNCA-funded charities;
• A sergeant wounded in Iraq, returning to work for the charity that helped him cope and heal when he came home; and
• A woman who lost her children and home due to addiction, finding her way back to health and a stable job in the Federal workforce because a charity offered her a chance at recovery.

Since assuming management of the CFCNCA in 2003, Global Impact increased contributions each year. With the 2010 campaign, Global Impact is now directing nearly $20 million more to charities providing life-enriching and life-saving programs to people and communities in need.  The CFCNCA was the top-grossing campaign of approximately 211 individual CFCs held nationwide during 2010.
