At the current rate, experts predict it will take until 2133 to close the gender gap worldwide. More than 100 years is too long to wait.

We believe women deserve full equality today. Through training, self-help groups, and cooperatives, the women with whom we work become leaders— empowered to make decisions and respected by their communities.

Although illegal in most countries, child marriage runs rampant around the world, as another girl is forced into marriage every 2 seconds. Few child brides stay in the classroom. But positive change can and does happen. Visit http://www.care.org/vowsofpoverty to learn about the causes of child marriage, the barriers to girls’ education and what you can do to help.

CARE: Syrian Refugees

Photo

Syrian children pose for a picture in front of their makeshift homes. On the outskirts of Amman, Jordan, hundreds of Syrian refugees have built a tent community because most could not pay the rent in the city anymore. A Syrian teacher, who lives in one of the tents, teaches the refugee students every day. The Jordanian schools are too far away and most cannot afford to pay the transport costs to get to it. A lot of the Syrian children have to work in order to help their families survive.

INTERNATIONAL CENTRE FOR MISSING & EXPLOITED CHILDREN: Facebook AMBER Alerts

When a child goes missing, every second counts.

Facebook started showing Amber Alerts two years ago in collaboration with the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children - ICMEC. It's already working – last November, an 8-year-old girl in Malaysia was found safe after someone saw an alert in their News Feed and called the police.

On International Missing Children’s Day, Facebook announced that they’ve expanded the program to 12 countries. The more people that see these alerts, the better the chances of bringing missing children home. Facebook and ICMEC are working to bring AMBER Alerts to more places so we can all help keep children safe.
