CWS has been at the forefront of using innovative approaches in dealing with the twin challenge of poverty and climate change. For instance, working in partnership with St. Mary’s United Methodist Church Foundation, Inc.; MAP International; and ECHO, Inc.; CWS is involved in a five-year, multi-faceted programme dubbed “Together” geared at improving health and development outcomes and building community resilience for the Karamojong community in Kotido, Northern Uganda, to cope with the harsh environmental conditions.

The enormous inequality in South America’s vast Chaco region, including parts of Argentina, Bolivia and Paraguay, is felt strongly by marginalized groups, including indigenous people and small-holder farmers. CWS’s Chaco program helps these communities secure legal title to ancestral lands and then use the land in an environmentally sustainable manner that increases their economic and food security.

AMERICAN NEAR EAST REFUGEE AID: Irrigation

Through ANERA's innovative water re-use project, 240 farmers in Jenin have apopted better irrigation methods for their land. The project increases production, provides jobs and helps farmers to grow healthy food for the community.
