Case Studies

Global Impact helped to shape and communicate the Grainger Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy. As the leading distributor of industrial supplies, MRO equipment, tools and materials, Grainger had the unique opportunity to demonstrate shared value at each phase of its supply chain. Global Impact provided benchmarking, executive and leadership assessments and a forward-thinking approach to both strategy and communications. An initial output of this ongoing work is a CSR Report called “Global Values. Local Commitments.” The Grainger CSR report is integrated both in print and online. The traditional print report drives readers online, where they can learn year round about Grainger’s CSR activities, in real time. Readers are also invited to “continue the conversation” via social media channels.

SOS Children’s Villages International

SOS Children’s Villages USA (SOS) sought out Global Impact’s expertise to help diversify its fundraising efforts within the private sector and foundations. The Global Impact team worked to define SOS’s fundable value proposition and identify specific and targeted programs and opportunities in line with the focus areas of SOS. Global Impact also reviewed SOS corporate strategy and defined parameters of what constitutes good, long-term corporate partners based on an alignment of business objectives. This provided the team with the foundational elements needed to conduct outreach. The Global Impact team then set its targeted and concentrated sales effort to work.

Through this partnership, SOS was able to expand its reach to donors and quickly pursue corporate partnerships that resulted in new revenue. In three months, the organization established a funding pipeline of $500,000, in addition to a unique partnership opportunity with Procter & Gamble. Global Impact furthered the prospect knowledge that SOS had on 10 existing corporate relationships, in addition to providing research on 20 new prospects.

Migrant Offshore Aid Station (MOAS)

Migrant Offshore Aid Station was founded in 2013 to prevent loss of life at sea. MOAS was the first organization dedicated exclusively to professional Search and Rescue operations to assist and rescue migrant boats in distress in the Mediterranean Sea.

In Summer 2015, MOAS approached Global Impact to serve as their US Fiscal Sponsor, allowing the organization to solicit and accept tax-deductible gifts from US donors—individuals, corporations and foundations. Global Impact established an online donation page, linked from MOAS’ website, to facilitate these transactions. When the body of a young boy washed up on a beach in Turkey in September 2015, MOAS inspired the public to contribute to efforts to save lives at sea and prevent a similar tragedy from happening again. In just 6 months, MOAS raised more than $1.5 Million through the Global Impact platform, processing gifts from donors in 75 countries. In the months since this partnership began, Global Impact has expanded its support of MOAS to include advisory services in the areas of value proposition, communications strategy to the US-market, and Foundation prospecting and outreach.

Utilizing Global Impact as a fiscal sponsor has allowed MOAS to focus their limited staff time and resources on saving lives at sea, while Global Impact handles the fiduciary responsibilities of fundraising in the US.

Hilton Prize Coalition

The Hilton Prize Coalition is an independent alliance of the 20 winners of the Conrad N. Hilton Humanitarian Prize — working together globally to advance their unique missions and collective impact in humanitarian assistance, human rights, development, education and health. The 20 Laureate organizations maintain an international presence in more than 170 countries. By leveraging the resources, talents and knowledge of each of its members, the Coalition builds upon the key qualities that distinguish the Laureates, including their collaborative mindset, exemplary operational structures and their expertise as sector-leading humanitarian organizations.

Global Impact serves as the backbone for the Coalition, with generous support from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation. In this role, Global Impact oversees the day to day administration of the Coalition, as well as its fiduciary services, communications efforts and program development.

Through the operation of the Signature Programs — the Fellows Program, the Disaster Resiliency and Response Program and the Storytelling Program — Global Impact aims to increase opportunities for Laureates to work in concert and innovate new models of collaboration, with a goal to share its best practices with the global NGO and donor communities. Collective Impact Initiatives under the Signature Programs focus on three key areas: growing the next generation of humanitarian leaders, establishing shared protocols for disaster resiliency and response, and amplifying the voice of the communities impacted.

With the addition of each new Laureate through the annual prize ceremony, the Hilton Prize Coalition and Global Impact aim to build a movement of collaboration that continues to strengthen the fabric of the global humanitarian community.
